Search engine marketing news - Google under fire for neglecting UK
- 20 October 2009
Criticism is aimed at Google for neglecting the UK - the world's second biggest search market - by British online consultants and other experts.
The Internet giant is under fire for faulty search engine marketing rankings, inconsistent results and international results featuring higher than they should.
Blame is placed on the latest algorithm update carried out over the summer and it is claimed that the UK market is being disregarded.
SEO and search marketing expert Daniel Peden said, "Let's hope Google get round to correcting this sooner rather than later."
News of the criticism has arisen after Hitwise, the internet research firm, revealed that Google is continuing to grow market share in the UK. More than 90 per cent of search volumes now pass through Google compared to less than 80 per cent two years ago.
Yahoo is in second place in UK search volume with an apparently tiny 2.91 per cent market share while Bing is in third, capturing 2.36 per cent.
Google doesn't seem to need much search engine marketing or promotional work - it holds three of the top six most visited websites in Britain and five of the top 20.
