Panda targets low-quality sites
- 8 February 2012
In January Google rolled out a data refresh for Panda and further improvements to their algorithm.
In a post from last year (Finding high quality sites in search) Google explains that these types of changes are aimed at improving the rankings of high quality sites and lowering those for sites with poor quality.
In 2012 they have improved how Google Panda interacts with the indexing and ranking systems, integrating it further into their "pipelines.
Many of January's other algorithm changes relate to the "freshness" of search results, (see Giving you fresher more recent search results.) The search engineers are aware that different searches have different freshness needs, therefore the algorithm is now serving a different type of result depending on whether the subject of the search is a recurring event such as the Olympic Games or a frequently changing event such as product reviews.
